I love creating custom pieces by the way, only last month I had to make some special Steampunk Jewelry for a former pinhead from a Coney Island show, I used two magnifying glasses plus a telescope to craft the world’s smallest Steampunk hairpin…

Silver Steampunk Necklace

I’ve just finished a new range of Steampunk Necklaces and I’m hoping to get a new “film” showcasing some of these pieces in the very near future.

Being an avid sun dodger I find it easy to work jewelry at this time of year. Shutting myself away in my windowless studio is the perfect way to avoid the summer months.

Summer just doesn’t suit my Steampunk aesthetic, I like the mysterious drear of the autumn and winter. I’d imagine it’s the same for a lot of other Neo-Victorians, with all those waistcoats and top hats, attire which is must better suited for dark and chilly days.

Once I emerge from my clockwork cave, I’ll get the new Steampunk Necklaces video uploaded…

Steampunk Jewelry Butterfly for the Soul

Steampunk Butterfly for the Soul

This is one of my latest Steampunk Necklaces, a charming, bejeweled butterfly caught upon a chain.
The Butterfly has many meanings in folklore and symbology.

For the Germans, butterflies were believed to be witches trying to steal the cream from the butter churns, whilst for the Mandarin Chinese, butterflies are a symbol of a long life.
The Russian’s word for Butterfly signifies the tiny creatures were associated with the soul and so to for the ancient Greeks, whose word for butterfly is “psyche”, which literally means soul.

My Steampunk Butterfly is a study in Violet and Pink, with a Vintage Ruby Jeweled Watch Movement and Amethyst and Rose Swarovski Crystals, mounted upon a silver plated filigree butterfly and can mean whatever you want it to!

Steampunk Jewelry Keys Mystery

Steampunk Jewelry Key

I’ve been collecting keys for a long time now and I have absolutely no idea what they open! People have sent me strange keys from where I have no idea; I’ve found keys and even purchased them on the web from far flung corners all over the world.

I often wonder what some of these ancient black keys open, are they doors I would even want to know about? What rooms would they open, what kinds of houses and dwellings do they belong to, who lived there, who used to use these heavy, iron keys and are the owners even still alive? Or are they locked out in the pouring rain cursing me even as I type this?

I think these keys make perfect Steampunk Necklaces, their often heavy black and Gothic Victorian in their appearance and carry a delicious sense of mystery!

Steampunk Jewelry Clockwork Bee

Steampunk Bee by London Particulars

One of the things which I love the most about Steampunk Jewelry is sifting through old watch movements and imagining new ways to use the vintage clockwork pieces.

This Steampunk Jewelry Bee is one of my favorites, I love making bees. I like to imagine that the springs and cogs will suddenly begin to turn and the bees will rise from my studio and take to the air, beguiling people with their alien wonder and stinging anyone who deserves it (fiends, cads and rapscallions).

Each of my bees are unique, this one was made with Vintage Watch gears which I arranged across an enameled Victorian Bee stamping (which was created with Vintage Tooling), I then caught the bee and hung him upon a Antiqued Silver-finished cable chain.

The Aeronaut Steampunk Necklace Wonder!

The Aeronaut

This is one of my latest pieces of Steampunk Jewelry, comprising of a Vintage Watch Movement with a pair of Steamy Silver plated Brass Wings and a sixteen inch Antiqued cable chain in silver tones.

I named this piece The Aeronaut because I think it would be a perfect piece of intrepid explorers of the skyways and clouds. Indeed, it would almost be bad form to take to the skies without a suitable badge of office! Of course it may well attract the attention of sky pirates, but I would assume you will also be traveling with an armament or two…

Steampunk Jewelry Butterfly

Firstly, and belatedly, I just want to wish everyone a very Happy New Year from my Steampunk Jewelry Blog!

I have loads of interesting Steamy projects this year and I’m still working hard to keep my Etsy shop well stocked, despite consignments and galleries and all sorts of brilliant mayhem!

I hope you like this; it’s one of my newer pieces, a Vintage Watch Movement Butterfly.
This piece is made from a Ruby Jeweled Watch Movement, accented with Pink Rose and Fuchsia Swarovski Crystals.
I then set this upon an intricate silver-plated filigree butterfly.

I just want to thank everyone who has been visiting my Etsy Shop and choosing London Particulars for their Holiday Gifts!

Selling so much Steampunk Jewelry has been a great incentive to make plenty more new designs and I hope you enjoy my new creations!

It’s been a great year for London Particulars, with a feature in Bizarre Magazine, a Gallery appearance for Professor Thistlequick and my work now being sold in some really cool shops!

A Steampunk Jewelry Birds Nest!

I recently made a new Steampunk Jewelry Assemblage Art Necklace where I combined lots of different compliments. The piece featured a vintage clock cog and face with an antiquated skeleton key and a homemade antiqued copper birds nest with a seed pearl egg. I love to mix and match and try different combinations and I think this one worked.
Because the piece sold incredibly quickly and was a one-of-a-kind, I’m planning to make similar Steampunk Jewelry designs soon and I really hope you enjoy these new pieces!

Clockwork Bee

This little reversible brass bee necklace is one of my more recent pieces and she holds a hidden secret. Her steamy underbelly hints at magical clockwork that might power her iridescent wings to keep her aloft.
Her creation was very involved; I first enamelled the bee iridescent for her wings and her body in black to highlight the Horological collage of vintage watch gears, which are intricately arranged to represent her clockworks. The entire underside is sealed in stages to protect the delicate work in this unique and wearable piece of Steampunk Jewelry.
This piece is currently listed for sale in my etsy shop and I was fortunate to have the Bee recently featured on their front page!

I’m still gathering the materials for my foray into the world of metal etching but time is precious and slipping ever more rapidly thru my fingers. I’m experiencing some doubtfulness that my handy work will make it under the tree this year but the exciting prospects of this process are keeping me on the materials trail.
On a more positive note I just finished some new pieces of Steampunk Jewelry and I’m excited to be listing them in my Etsy shop over the next few days.
My favorites include a panicked Chicken Little I created using Horological collage and a new version of my Dandelion Clock design.

Of Horological Collage and Steampunk Jewelry

Recently I have taken an interest in Horological Collage and I have been translating it into my Steampunk Jewelry designs.
A man named Len Kersh of Forest Gate in London put horological Collage on the map in the 1970’s. He used watch and clock parts to create pictures and many of his subjects were familiar London landmarks like double Decker London buses, Big Ben, Beefeaters and trains. Much of L. Kersh’s work can still be found today at estate sale, thrift stores, and on ebay.
Opening up an old time piece reveals all the miniscule parts that make it tick…or rather made it tick. When these wonderful machines break down you can still marvel at the inner workings and it is not difficult to see how L. Kersh became inspired with his new art form.
All the tiny metal bits and pieces can really fire up the imagination, for my part, I find animals in the movements; cats, snails, turtles, ravens and other birds too.
It is a very quiet pursuit, very meditative as well… the tricky bit is the final assembly of the miniscule parts and pieces which can prove itself to be frustrating, especially when the small parts fly free from the tweezers or become magnetized and will not stay put!
With the mounting interest in Steampunk genre and the growing community of Steampunk Jewelry makers and artists I think it is quite likely that Horological collage could experience a revival.
